According to the production’s media consultant, Belgian Fish was originally scheduled to go on stage this summer, but due to the 12-day war, the performance of this project was postponed to late autumn.

The play Belgian Fish, written by Léonore Confino, is being staged with a translation by Hamidreza Amanpour Gharaei and directed by Arvand Dashtaray. Along with the announcement of the performance dates, the logo of this theatrical production—designed jointly by Mahsa Gholinejad and Omid Na’molhabib—was also unveiled.

Léonore Confino is a prominent French playwright whose works are known for their sharp insight, dark humor, and psychological depth. Confino, who is also an actor, often explores the complexities of identity, family, and human relationships in her plays, creating multilayered and tense characters through a contemporary and deeply human perspective.

Belgian Fish is considered one of her most significant works, combining humor, tragedy, and mystery to take the audience on an inner journey filled with discovery. The synopsis reads: “An unusual narrative of a surprising encounter.”

The play was first performed in France about six years ago and received considerable attention.

Belgian Fish is the latest production of Virgule Performing Arts Company, which is currently in the rehearsal and preparation phase. The cast and further details will be announced soon.

Last year, Dashtaray directed the play Bluebeard at Dekor Theater and Music Complex, which was met with an enthusiastic audience reception.
