Description: “What’s going on?” was created in a Performance Workshop’s programme with acting students. It is structured as a game show in which audience members choose the best male and female student by elimination. The 10 students show off their talents by performing rehearsal exercises and monologues as instructed by an onstage director. The director’s demands steadily become more absurd and denigrating. The piece is a critique on the methodologies and structures of acting training currently overwhelming Tehran. Ultimately the piece questions the role of the observer. When observing injustice, when do we step out of the passive sphere into the active? What responsibility do we have as observers of injustice?
