Project: The Story Butcher
Description:
“Tonight we were given a taste of the sacredness of storytelling. The routine with which harrowing stories about war, oppression and injustice are told in the media was exposed. At the end of the evening I wanted to stand on the barricades to encourage people to continue using their voices. Furthermore, I have become convinced that my own story matters even without embellishment.” –

‘The Story Butcher’ is a theater performance based on stories of residents of The Hague with a migration background. This initiative arose from the ‘Verhalenhuis’ community art program by ROSE Stories, in which participants had a first introduction to storytelling as an art form.
After the Rose Stories theater performance Verhalenhuis in Theater aan het Spui was received with great enthusiasm, the performers and director Arvand Dashtaray and producer Marene van Holk developed the piece further and set up a tour in The Hague to continue sharing their stories.
